THE STORY:
2010 is the year My Sister Ocean decided to stop looking at what everyone else was doing and write their own story. The results have been unprecedented in the band's 5 year career as a duo and the 15 years after starting their first band together. Holden Daniels, the duo's singer, threw out the so-called music industry rule book and decided to go against the tide. Instead of releasing the band's 10 song album all at once and spending the year promoting it, he decided to release 1 song per month [digitally] all year, and release a physical CD in November.
The experiment catapulted the band to more national attention than in their entire history. The results speak for themselves:
• 4 singles in the national Active Rock Top 100. [peaking at #52]
• 4 singles featured on Alan Cross' nationally syndicated radio show Explore Music.
• 1 single featured on Alan Cross' The Ongoing History of New Music in Dec 2010
• 1 single peaking at #3 on XM Satellite "The Verge" in August 2010
• 1 single featured on Air Canada enRoute radio for November 2010
• Top 40 for most singles on commercial radio (Active Rock) in several markets [#30 in Calgary, #38 in Winnipeg, #24 in Barrie, #35 in Hamilton, #28 in Peterborough]
• Top 20 and medium rotation on Sirius Satellite since the 1st week of January.
• #56 on THE EDGE FM in Toronto.
• #48 on Sonic FM in Edmonton.
• #30 on X92 FM in Calgary.
• Light rotation and features on over 13 commercial rock stations nationwide.
All this contributed to a coveted spot performing at Grey Cup Fest 2010 on the Sirius Satellite Radio Stage with Bif Naked, Ian Thornley & Big Wreck, and Emerson Drive.
